What does it actually take to rewild the Amazon, and who are the people making it happen? Rewilding Amazonia is an eight-part investigative documentary podcast series that goes beyond the headlines to find the scientists, tribal leaders, land defenders, and community organizers across six countries who are doing the work regardless of the threats. The story is more complicated—and more extraordinary—than you might imagine. Episodes drop every Tuesday beginning April 28, 2026.

[00:00:01] Speaker A: Many people see the Amazon as only a forest. [00:00:05] Speaker B: The Amazon give us 20% of the fresh water of the world. We name this territory the Earth. But maybe we need to call it the Water. [00:00:17] Speaker A: It is the largest rainforest on Earth and so much more. A system so vast it generates its own rainfall, pine pumps water vapor across an entire continent and is a vital part of the planet's circulatory system. And it's in serious trouble. [00:00:36] Speaker C: The Amazon is very close to the tipping point. [00:00:40] Speaker A: Scientists warn that the Amazon could stop being a rainforest altogether. Between 20 and 25% loss. We're at 17% now, and in some regions the rate isn't slowing, it's accelerating. [00:00:55] Speaker D: All of this is happening under the gaze of civilian and military authorities. [00:01:03] Speaker A: Some of the people who are supposed to protect the Amazon are the ones profiting from its destruction. But across the basin, people are showing up, despite everything working against them. Over the past six months, I reached out to scientists, lawyers, veterinarians and tribal leaders across the Amazon Basin, asking them the same question. How do we rewild the Amazon? The story I uncovered was more complicated and more extraordinary than I ever imagined. [00:01:38] Speaker E: We can see almost everything that's happening in the Amazon. It's just about getting local decision makers to act on this information. [00:01:46] Speaker A: Eight episodes, 22 voices, one question at the center of it all. What does it actually take to rewild the Amazon? And who are the people making it happen? [00:01:59] Speaker F: Sacred means to give life nutritious food, clean water, clean air. That is life giving. We are connected to nature because we are a part of her. We can't lose that focus. [00:02:15] Speaker A: This is rewilding Amazonia, an investigative nature podcast series by Rewadology. I'm Brooke Mitchell. Come with me into the heart of the Amazon.
